replaced proportioning valve n booster help with adjusting to specs.

my brakes went spongy so I power bleed them with no results. my regular mechanic suggested after looking at it said proportioning valve as right rear and left front brakes actually worked when applied. did i do something wrong? my next thought was booster. out with the old in with the new. i am now back together and have no assist from the booster…what did i not do right? i have 1/4 free play in the pedal. the pin slips in easily to connect the brake pedal to the booster rod. spring is attached. there must be an adjustment that i missed in my research to get this done right the first time. any help would be welcomed.
