+Has the tablet been dropped or gotten wet at all?
Connect an external monitor to the tablet's mini HDMI port to check if it shows a full display.
If it shows a full display then you have either got a video flex cable problem, a video flex cable connection problem or a LCD display panel problem.
If the external monitor's display also shows only a half screen display, then you have a GPU/motherboard problem in the tablet.
Here’s a link to the ifixit [[Topic:Nvidia Shield Tablet]] guide which may be of some help in opening the tablet so that the video flex cable/connector can be inspected if you have determined that it is not the GPU that is the problem.
