My serpentine belt flung off on golf mk4

after a timing belt change i connected all hoses back to fluids and out serpentine belt back on started it let it run and sounded good then my temp gage came on and threw my serpentine belt off and the then the car wouldnt start on my golf mk4 what is wrong?
