Tried most all of the above and nothing worked. Took it to MS for repair they wanted $600 for a new base. Decided wasn't going to throw good money away again after being burned once…tablet was only two years old. Stashed the tablet and forgot about it. A couple months later decided to recharge the batteries and see what would happen. To my surprise everything worked! I clicked the display back on the base and it's been running fine ever since. I did read and tried one of the solutions that stated to let the batteries drain completely for a couple weeks and try it but that didn't work for me…guess I didn't let the batteries drain completely.
