I had the same issue.  I used a Q Tip and some rubbing alcohol and cleaned all four battery contacts with the wet alcohol.  Then I used the other end of the Q Tip (the dry end) and dried the terminals completely.  I replaced the metal back and turned on the switch and the green light turned on right away.
