I had a similar problem...
Searching through the internet, I found that holding down the power button reset my device.
So with a little search, you can find someone who already had the problem & was kind enough to post it to the interwebs.
Thanks, my Garmin 58 LM is back up and running for my delivery job!
I also have the 55LM unit as a backup
Both are running flawlessly for over the 3 years that I owned them used from Craig's list.
+I also own 2 older 1300 series with lifetime map updates. Still works to this day, used from Craig's list as well

Also had a Magellan GPS, but prefer the interface of the Garmin
