How to remove sand from stuck 75-300mm lens barrel?

I dropped my EOS canon rebel t6i camera in the sand while filming surf shots. I was using a 75-300mm lens that was retracted when it fell so a bunch of sand is stuck in the barrel. It's very gritty sounding and almost totally stuck- can't turn the lens easily to zoom in/out.

Is there a way I can fix this myself?
