Why is my pc screen gray?

My pc is about 4 years old and I'm having trouble with it. When I turn it on, the welcome screen is gray, but if I press esc it will go straight to the accounts. When I insert the password, I see the background of my account before it immediately turns grey again. At this point I don't know what to do. If you have any solutions please let me know.
