My samsung galaxy wont turn on or not charge

i plug in a new charger in my samsung talbet galaxy it wont fit so i tried to showed it in then the screen went black and wont charge.  I tried a soft restart but that wont work either.  please if someome can help me i would appecide it.  thank lyn
