I know this was asked a while ago, but it's hopefully worth an answer still.

The touchpad sensor is held in place by some kind of (I think) capacitive glue or tape. I found that I could remove it with a sharp modelling knife and a great deal of care. I angled the knife so the tip would dig into the case rather than the circuit board to avoid damaging the capacitive surface of the touchpad.
