@alf222 let us know the exact model of your TV. If it is the screen that is blinking it is possible that you have a bad power board/LED driver or a bad LED array. Post some good images of all of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see. Use this guide [guide|21499] for that.

+Just to clarify why decreasing the backlight will work (for a while). As one decreases the brightness, the voltages to the backlight strips will decrease. Less power = less heat. That will keep those strips illuminated for longer. This may or may not work for a while. For a permanent repair, the backlight strips that will require replacement.
