If you haven't tried before then have you selected the correct media in printer preferences > paper quality > media settings area? If cardstock is not listed, select a type that is similar e.g index card or brochure etc, so that the printer is "expecting" thick paper

Hi @macsba ,
The computer "informs" the printer about all the preferences that you have selected before and during the printing process.
Are you using the appropriate to your OS [https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8600-plus-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322915/model/4323647|HP drivers] (''click on selected operating system - Change '' to select appropriate OS) or the generic Mac HP printer drivers?
The only thing that you should have to do in the printer is ensure that the cardstock media is inserted print-side down in the center of tray #1 and also make sure the stack of media aligns with the line on the width guide, and is not higher than the paper stack line on the guide.
