I tried using the IFIXIT guide for replacing the glass on my 6th Gen HD8. They suggest that heating and then prying around the edges should free the screen. Instead, prying freed the entire electronic unit from the blue case. It appears that the glass is bonded (glued?) to the remainder of the electronics. Heating of the edges (as Ifixit suggests) does not seem to do any good.
Has anyone had any success in replacing the glass/digitizer on this unit?
