It sounds like your laptop never went into sleep mode and stayed on in a confined space, causing it to overheat and probably throw a thermal overload flag. This happens sometimes if you have a usb mouse and you don't specifically set usb devices to never wake the machine. Mouse moved, turned on the laptop. Bad news for all involved :/.
-Try removing the battery, waiting about 30 seconds, then hitting the power button on the laptop (with the battery still removed). Then put the battery back in the laptop and try charging.
