5s dying randomly before & after battery replacement, hours to turn on

I replaced my iphone 5s battery myself because my phone was randomly dying. Each time it died it would have to be plugged in for several hours before actually begining to charge. This was an issue with multiple chargers/outlets. Pretty sure it only turns on and begins charging with a system reset (again only after multiple attempts and a few hours of being plugged in). After replacing the battery, I'm experiencing the same problem. What's up?
