Windows wil not install from hdd or reboot disks.

I have had my laptop for approx. 8 years. I keep most things back up so when ever I have problems I always just reinstall Windows.

Now Windows will not reinstall either from my hdd or boot disks. The reinstall process form both is running much slower then usual and it never completes. Form the hdd it says failed and from AI RECOVERY RESTORE it usually gets to around 22% and gives up.

I have a sneaky suspicion that my hdd might need replacing, can anyone offer any help?
