UPDATE - Actually, I solved this on my own. It was 'pilot error' if you will. In removing the back plate, the connector in the upper right corner of the mother board had adhered to the cover and became disconnected. The loose component had always bothered me (no, I didn't look at the bottom of it or I would have seen that it's a connector) but it reminded me of a discrete component I'd seen in the early days of solid state electronics. Thinking back, I remembered that the back plate/cover being reluctant to release in that upper right corner when I removed it. It was at that point that it probably unplugged. I was struggling with the antenna wire connectors at the time. but, as I said, it had bothered me. I opened the Note up one last time and discovered that it only had to be plugged in. Success. Haste makes waste!
