BMW 2009 328i X sedan - Please explain best method by which to remove roof molding (runs from windshield to rear window). Also, do I reverse method to replace or is the (method) sequence different?

BMW 2009 328i X sedan - Please explain best method by which to remove roof molding (runs from windshield to rear window). Also, do I reverse method to replace or is the (method) sequence different? I know the strip is secured with clips. My question is: May I snap the trim off or must I slide it (fore or aft) off the clips?
