iPhone 7 home button not working after disconnecting the battery

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

Has anyone else seen the iPhone 7 home button stop working after only disconnecting the battery?

At our shop we have been replacing screens on the iPhone 7 since December of last year. We have not had any problems with the home button becoming deactivated after a repair till about a month ago.

We started seeing a few cases where the phone button would not function after putting on the new screen. The phone would either not wake up from a black screen and only recognized it was being pressed when the screen was on. Then after entering the passcode it would not function at all. Sometimes it gives a messaging saying "iPhone home button needs servicing" and automatically activates the assistive touch. In other cases it just says the familiar "unable to active touch ID" like it has with all the older models with touch ID functionality. This may be related to which IOS it is on.

Until a few days ago we assumed it was the screens we were replacing it with since we did not damage the home button in any of the cases. But this week we tested an iphone 7 that someone brought us with a cracked screen. There was no issue with the home button after the screen was cracked and no message saying "iphone home button may need servicing"

All we did was power off the phone and disconnect the battery with the screen flex cables still attached. Then we reconnected it and upon bootup the phone gave the "unable to activate touch ID) message.

This might be a software but with the version of IOS the phone was on, sadly we were unable to check.
