@lins, Lindsay, Just a thought, the screw is reverse thread, try to turn the screw counter clockwise to tighten and clockwise to remove. 1st link below may help in assembling and 2nd link may help if you require different part(verify part is correct for your model# before ordering). Lindsay Deakin, Yes, the plastic gear has broken and the center retaining nut which was molded into the plastic gear is probably still on the threaded shaft and will have to be removed with pliers(remember the threads are reversed and loosen by turning clock wise).
