Most likely do to the wire harness connected to the coil. Over time those wire get soft due to oil leaking around them. A short to ground would cause the coil to melt and since you already replaced it...the problem must lie in the wiring....also in that truck the wire from the coil should go to the icm which is not much wire to search for a short.
