The camera won't do anything when a card is inserted?

I was using my camera perfectly fine and removed the card to check the images. When I reinserted the card there was nothing.
I assumed the battery had died so I took it out and put another in, still nothing. I tried a third battery and nothing. The charger was also indicating that the first battery was still at 50%.
I removed the card to check it and on closing the card reader door the live view re appeared and the camera was fine. I could access all settings and functions. I tried all 4 of my memory cards that are all different sizes and brands. I have checked the pins and they are all fine.
I tried a factory reset on the camera and also a hard reset by removing both batteries. I wasn't using a battery grip and never have with this camera.
