MAGGIE , Clean the battery contacts in machine using a pen with an eraser on he end as it is a little abrasive or a Qtip dampened with 90% Isopropyl Alcohol or better, clean the terminals well and then blow out the dust/debri and change the batteries out for some new good quality batteries and try.
