Check that the Data Connection setting is ON.

Go to ''Home > Settings > Wireless and Networks > more > Mobile Networks > Data Connection''

Alternatively pull down the notification bar at the top of the screen and tap on the quick access icon in the top right corner. You should find the Data Connection icon. Tap on it to turn it on.
