27 inch Led Cinema Display has no sound

I have older usb/display port LED cinema display connect to my 2014 13" macbook pro. About a week or 2 ago, the display just stopped playing audio. I also noticed that the audio output options went from  "LED Cinema Display" and "Display Audio" to just "LED Cinema Display".

After some searching I found a firmware updated, from about 2010, but that doesn't seem to have done anything to fix this.

Has anyone seen this before and know how to resolve this?
