If your just looking for TDC you do not need a timing light . first you need to find the number one cylinder then remove the spark plug . Turn the engine by hand (use a socket and bar on the crank shaft ) until you have compression stroke . You can tell by putting your finger over the hole and feeling the air push against it . Once you have the compression stroke look on the crank pulley , there will be a mark to indicate TDC. align this mark with the timing mark , usually just off to the side of the pulley with makings on it.
