@wacque45 that is usually caused by either a dirty laser or a failed laser. DVD and CD lasers are different wavelength. That is the reason why it play one type but not the other. Your player is a bit offbrand so it is not easy getting any kind of service manual. It might be possible to find something to help you further if you can let us know what model your DVD player is
