I have a newer model (Z990) and I have to face the fact that if it gets damaged and I can't fix it myself, I'll have to chuck it. These are not pro models, and yours is getting to be 8 years old. If you find anybody to fix it, it would cost more than the price of a new camera.
If there's any obvious damage, like the switch is cracked, or works sometimes when you wiggle it, or some piece fell out, you might give it to a kid who needs some experience in repairing things. Who knows, you might encourage an engineering career.
