Quick Fix is just use a USB mouse.
But for a permanent fix, follow the websites guide to replacing the Keyboard and Trackpad. They actually are fairly easy to do. You don't have to be an IT expert to work on these computers. I would say that either your cables got knocked loose after 10 years of the computers life or they finally just crapped out.
The keyboard issue I have seen on other computers, where you can't type but only use numlock and things like that. First thing I would do is take the keyboard out and then reconnect it. It's like restarting the computer in a sense. The keyboard just needs a good restart. OR it could possible be something was spilled on your motherboard, like coffee, that is hindering the computer from taking keyboard input.
As long as its not your motherboard it is a very easy fix.
