The power cable could be frayed or the power strip it is plugged into could also be at fault.  This problem sounds like an issue with the TV maintaining proper power.  It could also be overheating and thus turning off to protect itself and its components.

Some more information about the make/model and when the issue occurs exactly would be super helpful!
