Descaling the machine and rinsing it well should be all that's necessary, but heating the machine to steam temp should take care of any bacteria that may have gotten inside the water system (it's a closed system so it's unlikely any has). I regularly work on machines like this that have sat for one or more years, often in garages or basements, and mold is rarely an issue.
