I know I can test the DC in board with a voltmeter, but I have also heard that if you have it out of the computer, and you plug it into the AC adapter, it should light up green on the adapter plug. Mine doesn't light up at all, which makes me suspect it's bad, although I haven't tested it with a voltmeter yet.
