since it's shutting down when any button except the shutter is pressed - i think the lens or the flash can be ruled out.

it sounds to me like a fluid/humidity damage and when you press a button - everything gets shorted

so i would open it using the [guide|2326|logic board guide] and chek everything for fluid residue
