How to remove NEW 3DS XL upper lcd plastic cover.

On  the upper lcd screen of the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL there is a plastic cover-like panel that protects the lcd screen itself. Is it possible to remove this using a blow dryer and a suction cup? If so how long should I apply heat? Will it damage the LCD display?
