If you are not cleaning off the old adhesive, you might as well not be doing iPads, without cleaning off the old adhesive, the adhesive doesn't get enough strength, besides the fact that there may still be small shards off glass on the aluminium frame still.

As stated above, make sure you have seated the cable correctly. :-)
