White screen with vertical lines

Hi. I hope someone can help me please. I have an A1237 MacBook Air which had a broken hinge and also the battery stopped working and had swollen up. I opened up the Mac and removed the battery, and also the hinges, by taking off the bezel etc. I ordered replacement hinges, hinge cover, battery and also a mic cable as this was snapped when the hinge broke.

I decided to plug the display cable in again to check it was working, to discover a white screen with vertical coloured lines to one side. I checked the connections to this cable and at one end it started sparking and a burning smell. It seemed as though some of the pins on the connector lead were missing. I ordered a new one, and have connected that today, but still have the same problem. Any ideas please?
