I have seen something similar, if not identical on the original MacBook Air (A1237). In my case, it appears to be a loose display connector. By applying moderate pressure with my finger to a point along the bottom side of the display bezel, the area of distortion disappears, at least until pressure is removed. I think the machine was carried from the top with the display open, and this put a strain on the display cable. (Just an educated guess.)
