shows white/black screen and won't reset

I have an iPod Nano 5th generation. The screen is basically blank, either white or black.

I've tried the normal button combinations to reset but it doesn't do anything so I can't do a reset on the pod.

When I press some of the buttons on the pad does make a clicking noise and I have fully charged it although obviously I can't see the battery indicator because the screen is blank.

I've had the pod connected to my lap top and iTunes doesn't see it. Although once it did pop up and i tried a restore but then got an error 1415 and it disconnected again never to reconnect.

Can anyone help or have I literally tried everything?
