I had the same problem. Replaced my broken screen, wanted to turn the Ipod on, unfortunately nothing happened. I read lot of suggestion an experience here and I decided to try the ground trick.

I afred of this (maybe the logic board will burn out) and I only put out the middle metal plate (the large, between the LCD and the Battery) Turn on the Ipod in this position, and shows connect to charge.
I plugged it to the PC, and now it's charging and looks working. ;)
