I believe that the error 29 comes down to a damaged or non-functioning power/charging circuit.

On the iPhone 4S, there are total of 6 small passives (resistors anc capacitors) to the right of the battery connector. These are typically damaged as the battery is removed, or because the flathead screwdriver slips and knocks one off. These components are shown on the following picture (Yellow circle):

Please make sure that none of these components are damaged, i.e. blown or missing.
