I've done this on these older machines.  The main problem has been finding logic boards that don't have the faulty capacitor problems.  I've also found that I can buy the whole machine just as cheap as buying just the logic board.  By buying the whole machine I can be insured that it works and I have the seller examine the caps before buying.
