Testing hdd and optical hdd on iMac

Hi all

I am trying to help a friend fix the imac pro that has water damage.  I took it appart and found the logics board badly coterized, everything else appeared normal.

I want to know is there a way to test the hdd and optical on a working imac?  Perhaps via USB cable?
