What adhesive is safe to use for keyboard rubber cap under spacebar?

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

The rubber cap or nipple, as some call it, in the center under the spacebar on my MacBook Pro 17" is torn. I have ordered replacement parts. Some instructions on the web say to use super glue, some say to use silicone adhesive. What adhesive is safe for the cap or is adhesive not needed? If not needed, how do I make sure the cap is in place when putting the spacebar back on? thank you.

Also, how do I remove the old one? I've tried to gently squeeze and pull but it appears to be firmly attached somehow.
