Very useful info. I did break a few small bits of plastic but nothing to worry about. I cleaned the "contacts" on the printed circuit board with alcohol and soaked the rubber bit in warm water and washing up liquid for 30 minutes and then dried it all off before re-assembly. Works great now, like new.

Although cleaning the contacts helped for a while the success was short lived and the remote died altogether after another couple of weeks. I bought a third party remote called RM Series RMC10330 which works perfectly and threw the original away.
