So very helpful and interesting.  Thank you to all you experts.  It worked for me by simply removing the metal plate, I never even got to the point of trying to short terminal 3... this must mean that I am having a contact to the plate between the batter and the LCD.  I am scared to put it back together now, lol.  Lets see what happens...
