Remember this sites name? It is possible to replace the LVDS cable and hinges. But I agree - not an easy task. I did this a few times and glued the display casing back together using cyanacrylat.

http://www.thebookyard.com stocks all spares needed, sorry but i didn't check iFixit.

The most difficult part of the job is fiddelin' the LVDS through the gap in the bottom case since the cable is really fragile.
