I have exactly the same problem after doing the Yellow Light Of Death fix.
When I try to launch any game or app including the Playstation Store, the screen goes dark grey, black, then dark grey and stays that way. The green light is on as normal. I have to hold the power button down to turn it off.
I also did all safe mode options including Restore PS3 system.
Need a PS3 expert here. What is happening differently when you launch a game or app? I can download the Playstation Store app but can't run it.

I found several threads in the playstation forums about this problem, but no answer as to what is causing it.
