Try the following:
* Reset the PRAM - Restart and Press Option-Command-P-R until you hear two beeps.
* Run Apple hardware test - Restart and press D while also putting in Install Disk 1
* Use verbose mode - Start up and press Command V
* If all else fails try running it in target disk mode (hold down T at startup) and copy all of your files off it just to be sure.
