-All you need to do Is find someone that you know that has a newer Mac something that is 10.4 or higher and use there Disk Utility and then go back to yours and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your OS onto the new Disk and go from there

-It also has something to do with the way you are connecting the new HDD to the Mac I have found that the USB2.0 To IDE & SATA cable works great but if you have a external inclosure that has a firewire connection then it will work better
