walt, the very first thing I would do, is to clean the complete phone, disassembled of course, with high grade isopropyl alcohol. Use [guide|10161|this guide] to work on your phone, and check [http://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Electronics_Water_Damage|on here] about general cleaning. This [guide|5825|great guide] shows how to clean an iPhone, but all the points are still pertinent to your phone as well. Replace the battery after cleaning and see what you get.
